- Writing Publishing Promotion and Marketing Workshops $40 (people who pay at the door entrance fee does not cover lunch. Menus and restaurant lists will be available at registration.) These workshops start at 8:30am.
- 5 Minute Publisher Pitches – All day registered writers will get an opportunity to pitch their book to publishers in five minutes.
- LITERARY MARKETPLACE OPEN TO PUBLIC FREE ADMISSION at Noon!
- Author Genre Panel – Registered authors will get an opportunity to speak to our general public about their works, answer questions and sell during discussion sessions. These start at 1:00 pm FREE TO PUBLIC
- Book Club Mix and Mingle – FREE TO PUBLIC - Readers and book club members are invited to come together talk about their literary groups and participant in discussions regarding literary issues in Metro Detroit. Please bring books to donate and to swap in an effort to increase literacy.

The readers have definitely gotten into the story. I’m getting excited myself trying to figure out what is going to happen.
Oh kay, funny phone calls I received…
me: Hello
reader: Oh… um … hi…um… I was … um visiting Sylvia Hubbard’s website and this is the contact number on there…um… I wanted to get the password, because I wanted to read the live story. I didn’t want to wait for the email.
me: do you have something to write with?
reader: oh … yeah… hold on.
( i hear her shuffling things around.)
I’m figuring as she’s looking she decides to talk.
reader: I’m a big fan of hers. I read all her work. I was so excited when I found out that she was working on another live story.
me: really? have you read the first part yet.
reader: YES! ( as if this is obvious) I’m dying for part 2. I think she’s such a good writer and i hope she gets as big as Zane one day. I tell all my friends about her.
I’m wondering if I should let her know i’m sylvia.
me: are you ready to take the password down.
reader: go ahead.
I tell her the password and tell her to verify that she has it.
Once we’ve confirmed it, she asks me offhandedly.
reader: how long have you been working for her? You’re her assistant?
me: Oh no. i’m not her assistant. I’m Sylvia.
There’s dead silence on the phone.
me: Hello?
reader: (voice shaking) Sylvia? Sylvia Hubbard?
me: Yeah?
reader: Oh my gawd.
me: are you okay.
reader: I … oh my gawd… I thought you were… I saw the contact page… oh my gawd.
I’m getting a little verclimp (emotional) with her.
me: I’m not that rich yet. I can’t afford an assistant unless it’s an internship or an author volunteer.
reader: oh my gawd… I read all your books. I love your books. I like them and tell all my friends.
I giggle a little because now I’ve heard her say this except it does sound a little better when she’s actually referring in reverance about me.
I’m really unexperience at taking accolades about my work, so I’m blushing like a raspberry about now.
me: thank you so much and thanks for letting others know. I appreciate that.
reader: i was serious about that Zane comment. you really are good at what you do. I like your stories because they aren’t just drama drama drama. You make me think. I like that.
me: thank you.
reader: Oh my gawd! (this one she exclaims loud)… You just posted while I was on the phone with you.
me: I hit the send button a few minutes ago just when I answered the phone.
reader: Oh my gawd. I was on the phone while you posted.
(as if this is Star Wars 9 being released as we speak and she’s privy to this.)
I was feeling real nice.
reader: I gotta read and catch up. thank you so much. thank you for all you do.
me: thank you for calling.
reader: oh my gawd! I can’t believe i’m talking to you.
me: awww, it’s nothing. I put my pants on one leg at a time just like you, unless i’m sitting down.
(I was trying to be funny, but I think she was still too in awe to really catch it. Thats okay. It was fun)
reader: oh kay, I’m going to go read, okay. I’m so excited. thanks.
I just thought i’d share that with you. that was kinda inspiring and uplifting to know i impacted someone like that.
Another thing I’d like to say to the answers I’ve been asked on the socials and in my inbox:
No, I really honestly don’t know the ending of the story.
Hell, I just realized the twist of the story is. Do you know how hard it is to figure out what the hell is going on and write like you did.?
I mean as I’m figuring out The Mysterious Mr. Black, I’m really writing off the cuff – literally. I’m enjoying myself, but hell, I really have no idea what’s going to happen next.
So you… and you know who you are because we go through this every live story, quit texting me with “and then?” after every post. LOL.
And i might add, stalking is illegal in Michigan too. So no threats of flying here to hunt me down and tie me to the keyboard again. LMAO.
For the new readers, These author notes can be somewhat nerve wreaking. As I reveal the story, I come on and off and let you know my thoughts, my feelings and so forth.
Most times, they are just bits of my life mixed with the story.
Other times, I’m trying to ask you for more… more readers, more comments, more something.
